I am currently working on an artist copy project of Raffael's "Adam" sketch. It has been very difficult but rewarding to slowly achieve the level of precision of each charcoal stroke in the shading. Raffael's shading manages to be both dark and precise in its regular, constant lines. They convey a sense of depth and detail very impressive for a work of that size. I have been enjoying learning to recreate this on a much larger scale. It has been a very interesting process and I believe it is making me better as an artist. I think I am managing very well with proportions, but I still have a long way to go to achieve the natural feel of the piece. I look forward to continuing this study.
