I visited the Maggie Walker Senior Arts Show. I LOVED it! It was so cool to see all the various pieces people have been working on all year and the different paths art has taken people on. I particularly enjoyed Lucie Bouton's pieces reflecting on themes of friendship and emotions. I loved seeing the different elements she used to give per pieces dimension such as tears in layered paper and added paper bubbles. I also really liked the contrast between the buildings hiding in her pieces and the human elements in the foreground. I also enjoyed Rachel Dai's pieces about identity and growing up, and Sydney Brewer's pieces exploring folkloric and mythological themes. I learned a bit about sculpture and possible processes to create sculpture through Sydney's pieces. She used frames of cardboard or PVC pipes and then layered on clay or styrofoam. This created some very cool and lightweight pieces that could hang on the walls or from the ceiling. Overall, this experience inspired me to create art because there are other people my age who are so accomplished and can make so many beautiful pieces.
Pieces by Lucie Bouton (first two) and Sydney Brewer (third one)
